Privacy
This is a private page for the family and friends of John Douglas. It is run by the family, on the family's own server. It is not a business, and nothing here is sold, shared or advertised against.
Last updated 20 September 2026.
The short version
Nobody outside this page sees what you put on it. There is no advertising, no tracking, no analytics company, and no third party with a copy of your details. The people who can see your information are the administrators of this page and the other people the family has let in.
What is kept about you
- Your account — the name you choose to be shown as, your username, and, if you gave one, how you knew John Douglas.
- Your password — never stored as you typed it. It is put through a one-way function (scrypt) and only the result is kept, so nobody, including the administrators, can read it back.
- Your email address, if you have one on the account. It is used to invite you, to tell you about gatherings, and to let you reset your password. Nothing else.
- What you contribute — photographs and their captions, guestbook messages, and your replies to gatherings, including the number of guests and any note you add.
- Sign-in records — the time, the network address and the browser of each sign-in, so a stranger using your account can be spotted. Failed attempts are kept for seven days and then deleted.
- Web server records — the address, page and time of each request, which is how the page knows whether anyone has visited. These roll over and old ones are discarded.
- A record of administrative actions — who invited whom, who removed which photograph. This exists so that questions like "who deleted Mum's picture?" have an answer.
What is deliberately NOT kept
Photographs are re-saved when you upload them, and that removes the hidden information cameras add — where the photograph was taken and which device took it. The original file is not retained.
There are no advertising or analytics cookies, no tracking pixels, no social-network buttons that report back, and no third-party scripts of any kind. The page loads nothing from anywhere but itself.
Who can see what
The front page — John Douglas's name, his photograph, what the family has written about him, and any gathering marked public — can be read by anyone who finds the address.
Everything else — the photograph gallery, the guestbook, the details of gatherings and who is coming — requires an account. Accounts are given out by invitation, or by a request that an administrator approves. There is no public sign-up.
Administrators can see members' names and email addresses, and can remove content. They cannot read anybody's password.
Email is sent from this family's own mail server. Your address is not given to a mailing service, an advertiser, or anyone else. You can switch off everything except messages about your own account from your account page.
How long things are kept
Content stays while the page exists. If you ask for your account to be removed, it is removed — but what you contributed stays under your name unless you ask for that too. Taking away an account should not quietly delete the photographs and messages other people came here to see.
Asking for changes
Ask any administrator to correct or remove anything about you, or to delete your account entirely. There is no form to fill in and no waiting period — a message is enough.
Children
This page is not aimed at children. A parent or guardian should hold and manage the account of anyone under 13.
Security, honestly stated
Connections are encrypted, passwords are hashed, sessions can be ended from anywhere, and repeated wrong passwords are throttled. No website can promise it will never be broken into; what the family can promise is that there is very little here to take, and that you will be told if something goes wrong.
